Orkney Islands

I took myself off for a solo trip to Orkney in the summer of 2007, staying at Kirkwall on the Mainland and Kettletoft on Sanday. For clifftop walks, enormous white sand beaches and incredible archaeological sites, you can't go wrong. Not the place for swimming, unless you're particularly hardy, but the scenery and tranquility more than makes up for it.
