The island of Goli Otok in Croatia was used as a high-security, top secret prison and labour camp run by the authorities of the former Yugoslavia under Tito. It was abandoned in 1989 and has been left untouched since then, creating a uniquely atmospheric view of what life must have been like for an 'enemy' of a Communist state. The island can be visited today on day trips from the nearby holiday island of Rab. I visited the island in the summer of 2013 and took these photos...
